Generation Z How Employers Should Prepare for Them
Generation Z How Employers Should Prepare for Them Gen Z (iGen or Centennials) is the generation that comes after Millennials and includes people that have been born after 1996. Some of them are already 21 years old, therefore entering the workforce and challenging all of our assumptions of how to treat employees and what to expect from them. Their defining characteristics, as shown by early indications are: Being self-aware. Innovative. Goal oriented. Self-reliant. Generation Z as Customers More so than previous generations, Millennials are all about new technologies which play the most important part of their life. This becomes a challenge for marketers and advertisers because they have to come up with innovative ways of attracting them. They also have to continue to research new hot apps and channels through which to connect with Gen Z, and adapt their vocabulary to communicate with Gen Z easier. Being cloud natives, they will not buy anything significant before asking their friends online, searching for reviews or quickly comparing dozens of products at the convenience of one click. As they are more diverse than Millennials, companies will need to expand their offers and leverage multiple marketing channels. It is crucial for marketers and companies to think long-term and not obsess over ROI from the different campaigns because Gen Z have a short attention span, and they might be convinced to take a decision only after seeing an ad multiple times on YouTube or similar channels. Generation Z as Employees As it is the case with all the other generations, Gen Z will bring to the workforce a new mindset and will have different expectations. Their main trait as employees is their willingness to innovate and their entrepreneurial spirit. They will most likely challenge the status-quo and will not accept the answer âbecause we have always done it this way.â For them to create the best value for your company, make sure to offer them freedom for thought, flexibility, and autonomy. Contrasting with the fact that they cannot imagine the world without the internet and mobile phones, they appreciate the one-on-one time, therefore, from time to time you should have private meetings with them to discover their strengths, and they will help you change the world. They wish to work for one company for long-term and will not switch jobs so often. The reason for this is their need of security since they have lived through the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and have been raised through the Great Recession, two of the most dramatic events of the past decades. This means you can safely invest in their growth, as this highly benefits your company. Companies Appreciated by Gen Z A recent survey was conducted to find out what companies Generation Z aspire to work for. The most appreciated company in the US by Generation Z is Google, followed by St. Jude Childrenâs Research Hospital, Disney, FBI, Apple, CIA, 3M and BuzzFeed. Quite a varied selection for sure. Because of their entrepreneurial spirit and multitasking skills, companies will need to find new ways of stimulating them consistently and challenge them. Otherwise, they can quickly become bored of doing the same thing for a long period of time without seeing any improvement. Trying to understand the new generations, more and more companies, marketers and entrepreneurs are doing research and surveying Gen Z to adapt their businesses for this new wave of professionals that will change the workforce in the years to come. The job application process, together with all the documents needed when applying for a job will need to update as well, embracing the cloud and the new technologies. 3 Reasons Why a LinkedIn Resume Writing Service Is Beneficial
3 Reasons Why a LinkedIn Resume Writing Service Is BeneficialHaving a resume written by a LinkedIn resume writing service is beneficial to both the writer and the recipient. It provides your resume a boost in the search engine results when you submit it to job sites that use these sites to filter resumes. And in turn, you get to benefit from the expertise of an established business while also getting a free service from a well-established company. The first reason that services offer such a service is to promote their business. When a LinkedIn business page is ranked high in the results, others who see it will click on the link to learn more about the person who owns the page. This is often the very thing that the company is after: establishing relationships.By establishing a connection with the reader through your business's sales page, you have already given them something to do after reading your resume. They are more likely to leave the site with a good impression and will be more likely to consider doing business with you. In turn, you get to gain more exposure and therefore more opportunity to bring new customers into your business.Second, a resume written by a LinkedIn resume writing service is useful for the writer. This is because the company knows how to make a good impression on the reader. Your own resume may not be as good as it could be and this makes you stand out even more, which can help your career. This company understands that a written impression can go a long way toward a job. You can gain a lot from a good first impression. And writing your own resume is very time consuming and can take a good deal of your attention to make it look as professional as possible. While the above factors are certainly valid for any company, it becomes even more important for companies that are trying to make themselves known. After all, people are less likely to be impressed with a resume that looks like another professional. That's why getting the services of a reliable LinkedIn resume writing service is beneficial to the company and your own career. The third reason that a company offers its services is because they understand the business. They know how to present your resume in a way that doesn't look amateurish. That means your information should be presented in a professional manner and that you don't have to have a PhD in English in order to get hired.By understanding how a business page is designed, the company has taken a step toward having a professional resume written for them. When you get your own professional written resume, you can bet that it will rank higher in the search results and therefore provide you with better opportunities in the business world.

Evaluating The Choice of Home Office Against Working In a Rented Office
Evaluating The Choice of Home Office Against Working In a Rented Office In todayâs internet-driven world, an increasing number of people are working from home either with permission from their boss or as a self-employed worker. This certainly has its perks and is well-suited to some, but there are also drawbacks and, in some cases, people find it better to work in an office environment. So, here is a closer look at working at a home office against working in a rented office. Working at Home Working from home can benefit both the employer and the employee. For the employer, they do not have to pay for a space in an office and all the equipment that the employee uses. For the employee, they do not have to worry about a daily commute which can add a great deal of stress to their daily routine. Many people also enjoy working from home and especially if they have kids, pets or other responsibilities to manage. There are some drawbacks though in that it can make communication slightly trickier and this is key in many industries. Additionally, some people find it difficult to work from their own home due to distractions and the fact that you are unsupervised. Finally, it can feel isolating to work from home and people can suffer from cabin fever if they do not make an effort to go out or have social plans, whilst some struggle to create a distinction between home and work life when working from home. Renting an Office A rented office in a share-space environment such as Be Offices can bring a host of benefits for everyone. Firstly, it makes communicating and meetings much easier and can create a positive working atmosphere. Many people find it easier to focus in these environments and the boss always knows where the employee is and what they are doing. The main drawbacks of renting an office are that it is a huge expense and the commute can be difficult and lower morale. This can be a large problem if an employee faces a long commute each day and if they have other large responsibilities like a child to look after. As you can see, there are benefits and drawbacks to both ways of working. Many businesses now allow employees to work a few days a week from home and this is a good compromise which can bring all of the advantaged of both methods and give the employee a boost in morale.

How to tell if youre headed to the top
How to tell if youre headed to the top While Generation X did not give a crap about building corporate America, Generation Y defined its own paths through corporate life, all largely non-linear, family-centric, and gold-star focused. If an achievement cant be conveyed through social media then it doesnt exist. The Organiziation Man is no more. History is the study of the cycles of human development: war and peace, the rise and fall of civilizations, and the ebb and flow of generations. So history predicts how the tone and tenor of Generation Z will resemble most closely the Silent Generation. Which means they will construct a new version of The Organization Man. Each era has its own executive profile, says Peter Cappelli, professor of human resources at Wharton, who has made a career of studying the differences among executives across generations. This month he released a long-term study about the trajectory of careers at the top of Fortune 500 companies. The study notably predicts what you must do over the next ten years to get to the top. While the bottom and middle tiers of senior management show varied paths to get there, top ranks have a more prescribed path to success. Ten years from now Generation Z will be the team to beat at work. Because Generation Z will have a love of strong institutions and organizational stability that is unequaled by anyone else in the work world, and they will start climbing quickly through corporate ranks. See the photo of the escalator? Someone sent it to me as a great example of user interface. But every time I look at the photo I think of it as a great illustration of how preceding generations will languish one side while Generation Z marches upward on the other. Heres how to get a safe spot at the top of that corporate escalator before Generation Z passes you. 1. Get an Ivy League degree or stay at one company. An astounding 24% of senior leaders in the Fortune 500 have Ivy League degrees. (And the percentage is on the rise over the last ten years.) Those who did not have degrees from the Ivy League had a more difficult time moving from company to company and had to work their way up, usually over two decades, within a single company. 2. Move around within general roles instead of staying in one functional role. Capelli says those at the bottom and middle ranks of management were more likely to have developed their career in functional silos like legal, communications, and human resources. Whereas people at the top were more likely to have have a wide variety of operational experience including PL responsibilities. 3. Gain international experience while you and your children are young. Most senior executives have international experience, but a survey from Harvard Business School finds that both men and women are unlikely to relocate when their kids are pre-teens because its so hard on the kids emotional and social development. 4. Create a solid support system at home. Top executives dont always have kids (most women executives dont) but they always have a supportive spouse. That same survey from Harvard Business School found that for men, this means emotional support and the ability of their spouse to sacrifice the short term for the long term. For women a supportive spouse meant willingness to free them from traditional roles at home. Also, most top-tier men have a stay-at-home spouse, but only 10% of similar women do. Which means the women have household help to make up for it. 5. If you need to go to therapy, do it early in your career. Emotional intelligence is more important than ever for top-level executives. A key aspect of emotional intelligence is the ability to have negative thoughts without dreading them. This thought pattern allows you to make decisions based on your values rather than the wish to get rid of negative thinking. Susan David, psychologist at Harvard, provides a blueprint for building emotional agility. Her blueprint includes a list of values for people to choose from. You just go through the list quickly checking off what matters the most to you. I took a picture of the list because I like it so much, but I did my own checks before I took the picturesorry. The list shows how clarifying your values helps you make faster and better decisions. It seems too simple to be true, but you know what? Its true for me. I checked all the stuff that makes me love writing blog posts. And the checks also show me why I love doing webinars at Quistic because in my videos the focus is so clearly on achievement but also on honestly, authenticity, and openness. I have been worrying that spending too much time on videos is too much of a diversion from my blog. Now I see they are aligned. And the decision to make lots of videos seems easy and obvious now. But the other thing this revelation shows me is why Ive never been on my way to the top of corporate America. I value things that disrupt and challenge an organization rather than things that build an organization. Which means I definitely wont be able to keep up with Generation Z as they race up that escalator to the top. Instead, I value the process of describing what its like to be standing on the slow side.

How to Actually Be More Productive to be an Entrepreneur Badass - CareerMetis.com
How to Actually Be More Productive to be an Entrepreneur Badass Being productive takes a serious amount of determination and thought. Everyone could benefit by having a more productive day/life so let me share with you exactly how I set up my day To get to the point, itâs not being productive when you try to cram everything you can think of into a single day all to feel like youâve gotten nothing done at the end.I was once there Try and have a conversation over the phone with someone and be fully engaged all while trying to be on the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Chances are you will lose at one or both.He who chases two rabbits catches neither. The same is true when you try to combine multitasking and productivity. Multitasking is the killer of inspiration, productivity, and not to mention clear thinking, which is the most important.Train yourself to not multitask and you will start to train your brain to think more strategically and efficiently. Once you get into the habit of doing one task at a time, you will feel more fulfilled in th e work you do and youâll get more done in the process.evalYou will also start to see real measurable improvements not only through your work, but also on a biological level inside your brain. Science doesnât lie. ??Find your FlowNo I donât mean âFloâ from Geico. ?? I mean the flow of finding the right time to get the most meaningful work done that matters most to you. If youâre human If it was me, I would choose the guy who is being productive at taking those hours each day and putting them towards a skill that will make a difference in his life. ??Fear is NOTHING!There are always those thoughts in the back of your mind that say something like âyouâre never going to make itâ, âstop pretending and just give up alreadyâ, and the worst one âjust listen to your friends and family because theyâre rightâ.Being productive in life is just like going against the status quo. Status quo is the current state of things. And in most peopleâs lives, we fear change abo ve anything else.Every New Yearâs people set goals and try to be more productive; they say things like âIâm going to start going to the gymâ, âIâm going to get out of debt and save moneyâ, and my favorite âBe less stressedâ.All of these things sound promising, but taking the little time to utter them out to the universe isnât going to make them come into your life. You must learn to not fear change because fear in and of itself is nothing. You can become highly productive if all you do is tweak and change a few things around in your life.evalIf you keep trying the same old thing, you will keep getting the same shitty result. In a post I wrote on my blog, I talk about a concept that I use called Time Chunking which is going against everything weâre taught in school. However, the concept of Time Chunking is a prime example of how you can turn the fear of change into being highly productive.ConclusionBeing highly productive is about doing things a different way th at will seem like work at first. However, after you start to put into motion the power of habit it will only seem like a simple practice. Over time your habit will become extremely hard to give up.If you try to revert back to your old ways of being unproductive, it will feel exactly how you felt when you tried to move forward with building the habit of being productive (isnât that mind-blowing).If you say youâve just got too much on your plate to try and build into your schedule time to do what matters most, then put yourself in my shoes. I run multiple business now and yet as I said in the beginning of this post, I have more free time in a day than most people have in a week.Life is a game and you have to be willing to change in order to live the good life. I once had not a minute to spare, was stressed out, underpaid, and hated Mondays! Now I have a life where every day is the weekend for me and I get to help people build businesses they love and itâs all thanks to implementi ng this little thing called â" productivity. Who would have thought, right?Share with me what youâre having a hard time with in your life when it comes to productivity. What could you be doing to be more productive? What are some of the challenges you face? Share your tips and tricks on productivity. Leave your thoughts in the comment section below and I will personally respond. ??Scott âproductivity is the only wayâ Hurtado

Why do Mock Interviews
Why do Mock Interviews Tell me if this sounds familiar you are landing lots of phone screenings and face-to-face interviews but, unfortunately, you arent getting any second round interviews or job offers. You feel you are qualified for these jobs and your salary demands are inline. Is this your situation? This typically indicates that your resume is strong but your interviewing skills are not. If this is the case, then Id like to introduce you to my good friend: the mock interview. Mock interviews are practice interviews that simulate the conditions, format, questions, and environment of the real interview you will soon have. A mock interview delivers a significant advantage to candidates over ones who do not practice with mock interviews. Surprisingly, a small percentage of people prepare for an interview with a mock interview. So use mock interviews to give yourself an advantage. Here are a few ways to get the maximum benefit from mock interviews! Simulate the actual interviewing environment It is easy to respond to questions when you are in the comfort of your home or school or coffee shop because you are in a comfortable surrounding. Mock interviews are the time to remove that comfort and simulate a potentially challenging environment or stressful conditions. If you can, try to find a business setting youve never visited to conduct the mock interview. You get the feel for having to find a new location on time that alone can throw you off in an interview so practice handling it. Dress the part Practicing interview questions is a good idea but why not take a few extra minutes and get in your suit, print your resumes, and brush your teeth just as you would do for a real interview. Casually practicing answers to questions is NOT the same as answering questions in the interview youll have. Remember, every extra effort you put into a mock interview creates an advantage over other candidates. Practice easy and tough questions Tell me about yourself is the most common interview ice breaker question in an interview and also the one that people trip up on regularly. Our coaches advise a very specific structure to this answer certain information in a specific sequence that takes an appropriate amount of time. This is how we approach each interview question with our clients we develop what you should say FIRST and then we practice. We also review the strategy you need to take with each type of question and tips for making sure you have a plan before you start talking. Do you need a career coach to conduct the interview A career coach isnt necessary for mock interviews but find someone capable of simulating a hiring manager for your potential position, particularly with case interviews. Make sure the person is competent and will take his/her role in helping you seriously. While career coaches are expensive, that cost should be weighed against the price of losing the job to another candidate who interviewed better. You may be a good candidate, even quite good. However, what if there are certain questions you didnt prepare for or what if there is something else unbeknownst to you that is costing you job offers? A professional career coach can help eradicate these possibilities. Either way, prepare with mock interviews. One executive career coaching client of ours conducted 17 mock interviews. The job she was looking for was rare and the competition fierce. Her resume was quite strong but felt the long and numerous interviews would be her stumbling block. Were proud to say she landed her dream job! You can too with a little practice. If you consider what is at stake, your interview preparation should be at least equal to your networking effort. After all, what good is your network, your resume and that awesome suit if you cant interview well? Remember, getting a job offer is your measure of success. Landing the interview is NOT the finish line! Run through multiple mock interviews for each interview you have. Make them as realistic as possible and you will soon have the problem of choosing which job offer youre going to accept! If your first interview is over the phone, check out our 4 powerful phone interview tips. Just ahead of your interview, read our blog to boost your confidence and ace that interview!

How to get a job whose back do you have -
How to get a job whose back do you have - Last night, President Obama delivered the State of the Union address. He spoke a lot about jobs and getting people back to work, but that is not what inspired this post. The President spoke about a mission and about being able to get something something BIG done, because you know someone has your back. This was the end of the speech: One of my proudest possessions is the flag that the SEAL Team took with them on the mission to get bin Laden. On it are each of their names. Some may be Democrats. Some may be Republicans. But that doesnât matter. Just like it didnât matter that day in the Situation Room, when I sat next to Bob Gates â" a man who was George Bushâs defense secretary; and Hillary Clinton, a woman who ran against me for president. All that mattered that day was the mission. No one thought about politics. No one thought about themselves. One of the young men involved in the raid later told me that he didnât deserve credit for the mission. It only succeeded, he said, because every single member of that unit did their job â" the pilot who landed the helicopter that spun out of control; the translator who kept others from entering the compound; the troops who separated the women and children from the fight; the SEALs who charged up the stairs. More than that, the mission only succeeded because every member of that unit trusted each other â" because you canât charge up those stairs, into darkness and danger, unless you know that thereâs someone behind you, watching your back. So it is with America. Each time I look at that flag, Iâm reminded that our destiny is stitched together like those fifty stars and those thirteen stripes. No one built this country on their own. This Nation is great because we built it together. This Nation is great because we worked as a team. This Nation is great because we get each otherâs backs. And if we hold fast to that truth, in this moment of trial, there is no challenge too great; no mission too hard. As long as weâre joined in common purpose, as long as we maintain our common resolve, our journey moves forward, our future is hopeful, and the state of our Union will always be strong. So true, I thought, when I heard those words. Who could imagine charging into that situation putting yourself into harms way, with the weight of the world on your shoulders? What an amazing group of people who made their country proud that day. Hopefully, your problems and challenges dont seem as huge as that missionYou may be looking for a job, or you want to start a business. Its tough very tough. You may be going it alone. That is tough, too. Id like to suggest you think not only about who has YOUR back, but whose back YOU have as you face your daily challenges. Are you spending so much time trying to find a job that you are not thinking about the people around you and what they need? Its easy to be overwhelmed with your own stuff, but if you open your eyes, there is probably someone else you can help; someone whose back you can have. It could make all the difference. And, dont go it alone. Its tough to find a job, but its not impossible. Learn what you need to know to look for a new job. Dont ignore the writing on the wall: if you havent landed an interview with your current materials, you probably need a new resume and strong, online profiles. Find some help for your job search someone who has YOUR back, too.
